Harry A. Zinn

Harry A. Zinn specializes in the representation of employers in all areas of employment and labor law, with particular emphasis in the areas of employment discrimination and harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour matters, state and federal court litigation, labor arbitrations, administrative proceedings, and personnel decision-making.  Prior to forming YZB (and its predecessor BPDZY), he was a Partner in the Employment Law Department of the international law firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, where he practiced for nearly 17 years.

Mr. Zinn has substantial experience in negotiating and drafting executive employment and severance agreements, performing personnel policy audits, drafting and reviewing personnel policies and practices, conducting employee training, and advising employers regarding complex leave of absence, discipline, and discharge issues.  Mr. Zinn also regularly advises senior executives in the preparation and negotiation of complex employment and severance agreements.

Mr. Zinn represents a wide range of employers, large and small, including multinational manufacturers, national insurance companies, medical research institutions and construction firms, large public utilities, law firms, sports and entertainment entities and individuals, health care providers, and venture capital firms. His clients include Amphenol Corporation, Anthem, Inc., dick clark productions, Habitat for Humanity, OTOY, Inc., Los Angeles Dodgers, Sherwood Country Club, Southern California Gas Company, Taconic Builders, and Untitled Entertainment.

For the twelfth consecutive year, Mr. Zinn recently was named a California Super Lawyer in the field of employment and labor law, a designation awarded to the top 5% of California attorneys based on a survey of all California lawyers.  He is also AV rated by Martindale Hubbell in the areas of labor and employment law.

Mr. Zinn is a past chair of the Legal Advisory Committee for the Anti-Defamation League's Pacific Southwest Region and vice chair of the Board of Directors of Hillel at UCLA.  He also served as a member of the UCLA Alumni Association Board of Directors.  He has traveled extensively in Eastern Europe and met with former Soviet government officials in St. Petersburg (on a pro bono basis) in a successful attempt to secure the emigration of a Russian citizen to the United States.

Mr. Zinn received his B.A. degree in 1981, summa cum laude, from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  He received his J.D. degree in 1984 from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall).  While there, Mr. Zinn was a member of the Moot Court Board and served as an extern to the Honorable Cecil F. Poole, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
